A Message From the Executive Director - Honoring the Brave During Military Appreciation Month

During the beautiful month of May, we celebrate Military Appreciation Month! Congress made this declaration in 1999 to ensure all Americans were given the chance to publicly show their appreciation for our troops, past and present.

But why does it matter? Why do we need a month dedicated to thanking those who promised to defend our constitution? The answer to that is simple: our way of life depends on their willingness to protect it. And military service is hard. It is demanding, the financial rewards are slim, and the sacrifices are substantial. Martin Luther King once said, “To serve, you need only a heart full of grace and a soul full of love.” Though it may not be the way most of us would think to describe our military men and women, it is certainly accurate. Because while we know that our service members are dedicated to their mission, and that they’re tough, fit, and strong… we also know that there’s something more. They have a deep love of country and one another. They remain committed to serving even during the most challenging of times. And they exhibit incredible grace during unavoidable hardships. All of these characteristics together describe our men and women in uniform. And that is why Veterans Outreach Center says thank you to those who have served our great country, this month and every month.

On Memorial Day, we pause to reflect on the sacrifice and service of those who gave all. On the third Saturday of May (Armed Forces Day), we honor all who are currently serving. And on the Friday before Mother’s Day, we show our gratitude for the tremendous efforts of all Military Spouses. Join us at Veterans Outreach Center as we celebrate all who have served during Military Appreciation Month.

Stay safe and healthy,
