VOC Helps Veteran Family Lay Father to Rest

In the middle of a global pandemic, Army Veteran Mark M. lost his father, an Army Korean War Veteran, to a long-term illness. The sudden death of his father threw the family into a crisis. With Mark in Rochester and the service in Ohio, Mark wanted to help his mother plan for a full military honors service but had no idea how to make that happen.

Mark turned to Veterans Outreach Center for answers, and we were able to identify several resources in Ohio for the family to reach out to as funeral plans were made. During the service, Mark’s mother will be presented with a memorial, something she wanted to help remember her husband.

While helping Mark fulfill his mother’s wish and to make plans to lay his father to rest, Mark revealed that he had not worn a suit in years and shared that he didn’t have the means to purchase a suit anyway. Through VOC’s Quartermaster Program, we were able to pick out a suit, shirt, tie, and socks for Mark to wear as he said goodbye to his father.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to VOC and to all of the donors who provide food and clothing to our Quartermaster Program. Together we are serving those who serve U.S.

While we are not taking donations at this time due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are depleting supplies. Think of donating to the VOC Quartermaster Program in the near future or view our in-kind donations page. Call 585.546.1081 to learn more.
