Veterans Outreach Center (VOC) has been awarded a $17,500 grant from the Rochester Women’s Giving Circle & Rochester Area Community Foundation to support female veteran programs at Veterans Outreach Center.

“The importance of programming specifically for female veterans cannot be overstated,” Veterans Outreach Center Executive Director and U.S. Army Veteran Laura Stradley said. “Female veterans often face unique challenges as a result of military service, but there tends to be fewer peer/veteran networks available to them.  Veterans Outreach Center is taking steps to ensure there are accessible and appropriate services available to female veterans where they can feel safe and secure.

“Our thanks go to the Rochester Women’s Giving Circle & Rochester Area Community Foundation for their generosity and support in helping us achieve this goal.”

According to a 2015 report from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, there are approximately two million female veterans in the United States, accounting for about 9.4 percent of the total veteran population. Between 2015 and 2025, the total population of women veterans was expected to increase at an average rate of about 18,000 women per year.
