Build Resiliency by Finding Your Purpose

When we are resilient, we adapt well to adversity, trauma, or any significant source of stress, such as family problems or financial challenges. Being resilient means “bouncing back” from difficult experiences and regaining your balance. Even more, though, with resilience comes personal growth. Resilience helps you get through rough patches while also improving your life.
Resilience is not simply a gift; it is a characteristic all of us can develop, like building muscle. Here are two tips for increasing resilience by finding purpose.
Move toward your goals. Set realistic goals, perhaps small steps toward something you want to accomplish. Do something regularly that’s achievable. Ask yourself, “What’s one thing I can accomplish today that moves me in the direction I want to go?” For example, if you’re struggling with the loss of a loved one and you want to take an initial step forward, join a grief support group.
Look for opportunities for self-discovery. We can benefit from hardship. Look for ways to grow as a result of struggle. For example, people have reported better relationships and a greater sense of strength after or even while experiencing adversity.
