When military veteran Sherman found himself without a job during a global pandemic—a time when it seemed more likely you would lose a job rather than find one—he turned to Veterans Outreach Center. Our employment team immediately took action, searching for local businesses still hiring as others were closing their doors due to a state-wide mandate to close up non-essential businesses and stay home. Sherman found himself with another disadvantage—he lacked proper internet access to send his resume or even apply for the job.

During his time on active duty, Dylan served in a variety of leadership roles in the 10th Mountain Division and 2nd Ranger Battalion. After completing company command, Dylan transitioned to the New York National Guard where he currently serves as the Battalion Operations Officer (S3) of the 2-108th Infantry Battalion.

Just over a month ago, the President signed into law the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund which is a bill that will provide health care benefits for first responders and survivors of the 9/11 attacks for the next 70 years.

Starting June 13 through June 16, hundreds of volunteers will be handing out free flags across the region to call attention to issues facing veterans today. This four-day event serves to honor the symbol of our nation and help raise money for needed services at VOC.

Thanks to a generous donation, these veterans will be funded for a free 47-hour armed guard certification through Valor Training Group. Classes are anticipated to begin in July, and slots are on a first-come first-served basis. Class schedule is TBD based upon trainer and shooting range schedules.
Read MoreVeterans Outreach Center is partnering with OACES to offer a free introductory class to their full electrical program, which is free for veterans. Participants will learn basic electrical theory and residential wiring in a hands-on setting. Those that complete the eight classes will receive a certificate of completion, and many students are placed in the industry after they successfully complete the full-time OACES course.
